Kenmore DishwasherError Codes
Dishwasher upkeep might be difficult. Luckily many modern devices can indicate if they need some additional service. Such an example is Kenmore dishwasher error codes. They can show and warn you about a high-temperature error, water supply error and many others.
CodeErrorSolution
1-1 or F1E1
Stuck relay on the main electronic control unit
Disconnect your dishwasher appliance from the mains. Wait for 5 minutes. Connect the machine to the mains socket again and restore the power supply. If the code returns, examine the wiring on the control unit for damage. Once you have revealed any broken wires, repair the connections. Follow the tech sheet and take necessary resistance measurements of all components connected to the electronic control unit. To find the tech sheet, remove the dishwasher bottom toe panel. Replace faulty components if any. In case the components and wires are operational and firm in place, it is the electronic control unit that needs replacement.
1-2 or F1E2
Faulty main electronic control unit
Disconnect your dishwasher from the mains. Wait for 5 minutes. Connect the machine to the mains socket again and restore the power supply. If the code returns after you have restored the power supply, replace the main electronic control unit.
2-1 or F2E1
Jammed button on the user interface control
Press all buttons on the user interface control and check their response. Once you have found out that one or more buttons fail to respond, disconnect the dishwasher from the mains network and disconnect the cable harness from the user interface control. Put the door back in place but with the disconnected user interface cable harness. Do not close the door. Connect the dishwasher to the mains again and wait for at least 7 seconds to let the electronic control unit power-up. Next, close the door. Because the user interface cable harness is disconnected from the electronic control unit, it no longer detects jammed buttons and starts the drain pump. In this case, replace the user interface control. If you hear no drain pump sounds, replace the main electronic control unit. It is faulty because it still detects jammed buttons even though the user interface control is disconnected from it.
3-1 or F3E1
Thermistor or OWI sensor malfunction
Thermistor or OWI sensor malfunction (a thermistor is a device designed to measure water temperature, and an OWI (Optical Water Indicator) sensor works to detect debris in the water). Disconnect the dishwasher from the mains grid. Examine the wiring connecting the main electronic control unit with the thermistor and OWI sensor. If the cable harness is broken, repair it or replace it with a new one. In case all the wirings are unimpaired, it means that the thermistor/OWI sensor requires replacement.
3-2 F3E2
Thermistor or OWI sensor malfunction
Disconnect the dishwasher from the mains grid. Examine the wiring connecting the main electronic control unit with the thermistor and OWI sensor. If the cable harness is broken, repair it or replace it with a new one. In case all the wirings are unimpaired, it means that the thermistor/OWI sensor requires replacement.
4-4 or F4E4
The electronic control unit fail to communicate
Disconnect the dishwasher from the mains to cut off the power supply. Check the cable harness, leading to the circulation pump, and connect any loose wires back in place. If the cable harness is damaged, replace it. If all the wirings are operational, replace the circulation pump and drive assembly. In case the problem persists, replace the main electronic control unit.
5-1 or F5E1
Door switch malfunction
This error code appears if the dishwasher door is not closed within 4 seconds after the Start/Resume button was pressed, or in case the door latch unit is out of order. When you start a washing cycle, remember to close the door within a 4-second time span after you have pressed Start/Resume. If the cycle cannot be started, returning the same error code, it is the door switch that needs replacement. Disconnect the dishwasher from the mains to cut off the power supply. Take off the door and examine the door switch wirings. Connect any loose wires back in place or replace the entire cable harness in case it is damaged. The door latch unit needs replacement if the wiring is in order.
5-2 or F5E2
Main control unit detects an unopened door
The main electronic control unit tracks the door switch activation between washing cycles. In case it was not activated, the dishwasher will fail to start the next cycle. Cancel the cycle if you did not open the door after the previous one. Open the door, close it again, and start a new cycle. This should resolve the problem. In case the washing cycle does not start, the door switch may be faulty and needs replacement. Disconnect the dishwasher from the manes and reconnect it again to simulate the door-opening procedure. If the washing cycle starts successfully, it means that the door switch is defective and the door latch unit needs replacement.
6-1 or F6E1
The dishwasher fails to fill with water
Inspect the space under the overfill float in the dishwasher. If there is any item stuck, remove it. The overfill float in the top position prevents the dishwasher from being filled with water. Disconnect the dishwasher from the mains to cut off the power supply and turn off a water supply tap. Remove the water supply hose, disconnecting it from the dishwasher water inlet valve and see if its filter screen mesh is not clogged. Replace the water valve if the screen has clogs. Debris from the clog can get into the dishwasher water valve body and block it, preventing it from closing. In case the filter mash is clean, place the dishwasher hose tip in any container and turn on the water supply tap to see if water flows freely through the hose. If no water flows into the container, check your water supply system. In case the water flows normally, examine the wirings leading to the water inlet valve. Connect all loose wires back in place or replace the entire cable harness if it is out of order. If the cable harness is fully functional, it is the water inlet valve or the main electronic control unit that needs replacement.
6-2 or F6E2
Water inlet valve malfunction
Disconnect the dishwasher from the mains network to cut off the power supply. Remove both the bottom front access panel and the toe panel. Inspect the wires connected to the water inlet valve. Any loose wires should be reconnected. If damaged, replace the entire cable harness. If all the wiring is in good condition, use a multimeter and test the water inlet valve resistance. The water inlet valve resistance readings should return around 1,400 ohms. If the resistance exceeds the required parameters, replace the water inlet valve. In case the issue persists, replace the main electronic control unit.
6-3 or F6E3
Air or suds found in the water pump
See if your water is too sudsy. If it is very sudsy, cancel the washing cycle and drain the dishwasher. The pump will drain water for 3 minutes. In case the pump cannot drain the water, remove it by hand, using some cloth or water hoover. Examine the detergent dispenser carefully for any damage and replace it if you can see any defects. When using a dishwasher, add exclusively specialized detergents designed to be used with dishwashers. If you use regular washing up agents in the dishwasher machine, they will cause redundant soapsuds formation. If soapsuds are within the normal parameters, check if the water in the dishwasher tub is at the necessary level. The low water level may cause the air in the drain pump. If the water touches the bottom of the mushroom float, the water level is correct. Once you have found the water level lower than that, check for some bowls or other containers in the tub. They could have flipped over into it during the washing cycle and now are holding the rest of the water. Load the utensil back into the rack and check if they sit securely in place. In case you cannot find any utensils in the dishwasher tub, it is the water inlet valve that causes the low water level. Disconnect the dishwasher from the mains to cut off the power supply and turn off your water supply system tap. Remove the water supply hose, disconnecting it from the dishwasher water inlet valve and see if its filter screen mesh is not clogged. Replace the water valve if the screen has clogs. Debris from the clog can get into the dishwasher water valve body and block it, preventing it from closing or opening. If the cable harness is fully functional, it is the water inlet valve that needs replacement.
6-4 or F6E4
The float switch is open
Inspect the space under the overfill float in the dishwasher. If there is any item stuck, remove it. A faulty water inlet valve can also make the float switch open. In case the water inlet valve does not close when necessary, the water will constantly flow into the dishwasher and make the float switch trip. Make sure the water inlet valve is operational. If not, replace it with a new one. The error code can also indicate that a float switch is faulty. Disconnect the dishwasher from the mains network to cut off the power supply and test the overfill float switch resistance. If your meter returns 0 ohms when the dishwasher tub is empty (or nearly empty), the float switch is in good shape. If the resistance reads infinite values, the float switch needs replacement.
6-7 or F6E7
Flow meter failure
Disconnect the dishwasher from the mains and examine the wirings connecting the water softener salt sensor and the flow meter. If you see any loose wires, reconnect them. If any wires are damaged, repair them and reconnect them back in place. Examine the wirings connecting the water softener salt sensor and the main electronic control unit. If you see any loose wires, reconnect them. If any wires are damaged, repair them and reconnect them back in place. If wires are in good shape, replace the flow meter.
6-8 or F6E8
Water softener regeneration valve malfunction
Disconnect the dishwasher from the mains and examine the wirings connecting the main electronic control unit and the water softener regeneration valve. If you see any loose wires, reconnect them back in place and repair broken wires if any. Use the multimeter and test the regeneration valve circuit resistance through the wires that connect the valve circuit to the main electronic control unit. The meter should show from 890 to 1,090 ohms. In case resistance is within the normal parameters, replace the main electronic control unit as it does not read the regeneration valve circuit. If the meter returns infinite resistance, test the regeneration valve resistance directly. If the multimeter returns infinite resistance, the water softener tank unit needs replacement. In case the meter returns from 890 to 1,090 ohms directly at the regeneration valve, check the cable harness and repair or replace it. If the cable harness is defective, the meter will return infinite resistance at the regeneration valve circuit.
7-1 or F7E1
Heating element fails to work
Check the heating element and replace it if you see any damage. In case the heating element is in order, disconnect the dishwasher from the mains and inspect the wirings connecting the main electronic control unit with the heating element. Once you see any loose wires, reconnect them. Replace the cable harness if you see it damaged. If the cable harness is fully operational, it is the heating element that needs replacement.
7-2 or F7E2
Heating element does not switch off
Turn off the dishwasher for not less than 5 minutes. If the error code persists after you have restored power, the main electronic control unit needs to be replaced.
8-1 or F8E1
Slow drainage
Disconnect the dishwasher from the mains to cut off the power supply. Inspect the drain hose and remove any clogs you may find in the process. In case the hose and the rest drain path are not clogged, check the wirings connecting the drain pump and the main electronic control unit. If you see any disconnected wires, connect them back in place. Replace the wiring if it is severely damaged. Otherwise, if the wiring connection is in order, it is the drain pump that needs replacement.
8-2 or F8E2
Drain pump power supply issue
Disconnect the dishwasher from the mains to cut off the power supply. Examine the wirings connecting the drain pump and the main electronic control unit. If you see any disconnected wires, connect them back in place. Replace the wiring if it is severely damaged. Otherwise, if the wiring connection is in order, it is the drain pump that needs replacement.
8-4 of F8E4
Drain pump drive malfunction
Disconnect the dishwasher from the mains to cut off the power supply. Examine the wirings connecting the drain pump and the main electronic control unit. If you see any disconnected wires, connect them back in place. If the wiring is intact, look for debris inside the drain pump and clear it if any, as it may block the impeller, preventing it from spinning. In case the drain pump is clean, it is the drain pump that needs replacement.
9-1 or F9E1
Electronic control unit cannot detect diverter disk position
The diverter drive controls the disc directing water through the upper spray arm or the lower spray arm. The diverter drive also tracks the diverter disc position and signals the main electronic control unit about it. Disconnect the dishwasher from the mains to cut off the power supply. Check the cable harness leading to the diverter drive. If you see any disconnected wires, connect them back in place. Replace the wiring if it is severely damaged. If the wiring is in good condition, you have to replace the diverter drive as it fails to send position signals to the main electronic control unit. If you are not sure how to do it, call a specialist.Book online
9-2 or F9E2
Diverter drive blocked
The main electronic control unit has a diverter relay onboard. It appears to be defective. Disconnect the dishwasher from the mains to cut off the power supply. Replace the main electronic control unit.
9-3 or F9E3
No or broken diverter disc
Take out all the dish racks and the lower spray arm from the dishwasher. Pull out the TurboZone manifold and the water feed hose. When you remove the pump outlet, you will be able to check for the diverter disc. If it is broken or you cannot see it, replace it or install a new diverter disc.
9-4 or F9E4
Lower spray arm malfunction
Inspect the space around the lower spray arm and remove any object blocking it. Disconnect the dishwasher from the mains to cut off the power supply. Check the cable harness leading to the lower spray arm drive. It is a part of the diverter drive in this particular dishwasher. If you see any disconnected wires, connect them back in place. Replace the cable harness if it is severely damaged. If the wiring is operational, replace the diverter drive along with the lower spray arm drive.
10-1 or FAE1
Detergent dispenser malfunction
Disconnect the dishwasher from the mains to cut off the power supply. Dismantle the door panel and inspect the wirings connecting the main electronic control unit and the detergent dispenser.
10-3 or FAE3
Faulty drying fan
Disconnect the dishwasher from the mains to cut off the power supply. Examine the wirings connecting the main electronic control unit and the drying fan. If you see any loose wires, connect them back in place or replace the entire cable harness if it is badly damaged. If the cable harness is in order, it is the drying fan that needs to be replaced.

I booked an appointment with Appliance Fix Experts by phone. He gave me a date for a week later and added that if I was able to get someone sooner, just to let them know. I thought I had canceled by email but I should have phoned to cancel. Unfortunately the technician showed up. They were good enough to not charge me for the appointment.
